Teenagers need to begin to become adept at working out as well as eating correctly. If they can successfully make exercise and nutrition a healthy habit at an early age, then they are much more likely to stick to those habits as they progress in life. Nutrition may be more important than the right workout, especially in terms of body fat and looking great. However, a good exercise program also has its place. Some of the tips and hints below can help you or your teenage child get started.

Legs

The legs are quite honestly the most important muscle group that can be worked, whether you are a young teenager, a serious athlete, or someone just trying to stay in shape later in life. By working the leg muscles, the core muscles are also being worked. These are the muscles that allow the body to maintain great posture. If you have strong legs and a strong core, you are very unlikely to easily become injured. Some of the most important leg exercises to perform include:

  • Squats
  • Front squats
  • Lunges
  • Goblet squats

Deadlifts are also incredibly important for the legs. However, deadlifts are quite simply an amazing exercise for the entire body, if they are completed correctly.

Chest

Everyone wants to have an impressive bench press max. Every time you see someone who looks like they work out, it may be tempting to ask them what their bench press max is. It is often seen as a measurement of strength. A well-defined chest and upper body are something that most people would love to have. One way to gain this is by completing exercises for their chest. Some of the following exercises are great for the chest:

  • Bench press
  • Incline bench press
  • Decline bench press
  • Chest flys
  • Dips

Back

Ensure that back exercises are completed as often as chest exercises. If one muscle group becomes much stronger than the other, muscular imbalances can be created in the body so that injuries are much more likely to occur. By completing back exercises, you may end up achieving that “V” look that comes about as a result of a wide back, along with a small waist. This is something that most men who work out would love to achieve. Such great back exercises include:

  • Bent-over rows
  • One arm rows
  • Upright rows
  • Shrugs
  • Lat pull-downs
  • Chin-ups
  • Pull-ups

Deadlifts are also great for the back, as they are also great for the legs.

Shoulders

Shoulders are the type of muscle group that you have to be careful of when you exercise. There is no need to work the shoulders too much, and if you aren’t careful, this can happen easily. Great shoulder exercises include:

  • Barbell shoulder press
  • Dumbbell shoulder press
  • Lateral dumbbell raises
  • Front dumbbell raises
  • Military Presses

Nutrition

As a teenager, it’s best to create healthy eating habits from early. This does not mean that certain foods need to be cut out entirely. Everything should be done in moderation. Carbohydrates are a necessity, they just need to be consumed carefully. Keep in mind that complex carbs are much better than simple carbs. Complex carbs require energy to be broken down and are a great source of energy for those difficult workouts.

Sugars aren’t entirely bad, they just need to be consumed in moderation. Even fats have their place in a healthy diet. Fats can help one live more healthy, as long as you are sure that you are taking in the correct types of fats. Protein is also important and needs to be eaten along with a healthy lifestyle.
