8 Best Natural Remedies for Skin Rashes

Skin rash is a term describing an outbreak of red bumps on the body that changes the skin’s texture. The most common skin rashes are referred to as dermatitis or skin lesions. These outbreaks are caused by a variety of factors, including bacterial infections, diapers, viral infections, insect bites, allergies, or certain medications. The most common symptoms are redness, itchiness, dryness, scaling, peeling skin, fever, stinging or burning sensation, and rings in reddish colors.

Remedies for Skin Rashes

A skin rash could be localized or widespread. Some rashes will disappear by themselves as soon as the trigger is removed, while others will require treatment. Mild skin rashes can be treated by applying simple home remedies. Below are some of the most effective natural remedies to help treat skin rashes.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Having versatile uses, apple cider vinegar is not only useful in treating acne, but could also fights bacteria and fungus on the skin which causes skin rashes. If the rash is not related to fungus, then ACV may not work. However, for those with rashes like eczema or ringworm, apple cider vinegar will definitely work thanks to its antimicrobial properties.

The antifungal and antiseptic properties in apple cider vinegar also make it a good anti-itching agent. Simply dip a cotton ball in a small amount of ACV and slightly rub it on the affected area.

2. Aloe Vera

Not only does it contain anti-inflammatory, antifungal and anti-bacterial properties, Aloe Vera is also rich in vitamins and minerals that are great for healing and soothing the skin. To get the best result, choose fresh Aloe Vera. Extract the gel from a fresh leaf and apply it on the rash. After 20 minutes, wash it off with cool water. Apply this method at least 3 times per day until the rashes disappear.

3. Baking Soda

Baking soda is effective in treating skin rashes because it helps dry out the skin and relieve inflammation and itching associated with rashes. Mix 1 part of baking soda with 3 parts of water, then apply this combination to the affected area. After a few minutes, rinse it off with cool water.

Alternatively, mix baking soda with coconut oil to create a paste. Apply the paste on problematic areas and wash it off after 5 minutes or so. To get noticeable results, do this routine 1 -2 times per day for a few days. Please note that baking soda if left on the skin for too long can result in further irritation.

4. Chamomile Tea

Another useful natural remedy for skin rashes and other skin issues is chamomile. This herb will relieve the itching, soothe the skin, alleviate inflammation, and speed up the healing process thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. Soak a clean cloth in warm chamomile tea and place it on the infected area. After 20 minutes, wash it off with cool water.

Follow this method 2-3 times per day for several days. You may also dilute several drops of chamomile essential oil in about 2 teaspoons of carrier oil and apply it on the skin for several days until the rashes disappear.

5. Neem

Similar to chamomile, neem has anti-viral, anti-irritant, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties which are excellent for treating skin problems such as scabies, psoriasis, eczema, rashes and other skin infections. Prepare a handful of neem leaves and simmer them in hot water for 15 minutes. After straining and letting the solution cool, soak a cotton ball in it and place it over the skin for 15 minutes. As a daily treatment, repeat this method a few times per day for several days.

6. Calendula

Calendula is another great herb for treating skin rashes (dry skin, eczema, wounds and bruises) thanks to its antifungal, astringent, and antiviral properties. Apply a small amount of calendula oil on the skin and wait for a couple of hours before rinsing off.

Alternatively, take some calendula flowers and let them wilt for 12 hours in order to eliminate the moisture. Pour a good amount of olive oil over the flowers and heat over low heat for 3- 4 hours. Let cool, strain, and store the oil in a glass jar. Simply apply it over the affected area whenever you feel the itchiness of the rash.

7. Coriander

Owing to anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties, coriander is an excellent Ayurvedic remedy for itchy skin. Take a handful of coriander leaves and grind them up. Apply the paste on the affected area and wait for 30 minutes before washing off. Repeat 1- 2 times per day for several days.

8. Witch Hazel

Being an excellent astringent, witch hazel can treat skin infections naturally. Soak a clean cotton ball in witch hazel and apply it on the affected skin. Alternatively, boil hazel bark in water, soak a cloth into it and place it over the rash. Rinse it off with cool water after 30 minutes.
