11 Natural Remedies for Treating Bad Breath

Nobody wants bad breath, and it’s equally true that you don’t want to smell somebody else’s bad breath! Unfortunately, the bacteria and organisms in our mouths don’t care about creating a stink, and some people are just more prone to having bad breath no matter what.

1. Green Tea or Black Tea

Because tea, especially green tea, is a strong antioxidant, drinking these teas can help rid your body of the bacteria that causes bad breath. Swap that morning cup of coffee for a cup of tea and you’ll find it much easier to keep your breath from smelling pungent.

2. Green Guavas

A Guava is loaded with a plethora of nutrients, like calcium, oxalate, and manganese. The fruit is also rich in oxalic acid and malic acid that are highly effective against halitosis. Additionally, guavas are beneficial for promoting gum and teeth health.

3. Drink Pure Water

Drink, drink, drink, and drink more water. Plenty of water keeps your mouth hydrated and prevent bad breath. Try drinking one glass first thing in the morning to get you off to a good start.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar should always be kept on hand because it is good for so many home remedies, and curing bad breath is just one of them. Combine some apple cider vinegar with a glass of water; gargle the combination for at least 10 seconds, then spit out. This will help eliminate odors in your mouth.

5. Baking Soda

Baking soda helps create a hostile environment to bacteria in your mouth by changing the acidity levels. Baking soda can be added to your toothbrush and brushed along the teeth, gums, and mouth. You can also choose a toothpaste that contains baking soda to help keep bad breath at bay.

6. Tea Tree Oil

Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil into a full glass of water. Use it as you would a mouthwash and swish around for 30 seconds, then spit out. You can repeat this 3-4 times per day.

7. Citrus Fruits

The citric acid that is in these types of fruit helps stimulate saliva, which can kill off excess bacteria in the mouth, and thus eliminate bad odor.

This herb isn’t just a garnish for your dinner but it also a potent odor-fighting ingredient. The chlorophyll in parsley helps eliminate the bacteria in your mouth. Simply nosh on some parsley leaves to eliminate bad breath.

9. Avocado

Avocados help to kill the bacteria in your digestive tract and therefore addressing the bacteria problem in your mouth as well. Eat a slice of avocado for an immediate effect.

10. Cardamom

Cardamom has an aromatic flavor which translates to refreshing breath when you eat just a few seeds. Sunflower seeds and fenugreek seeds are other seeds that help eradicate bad breath. You can also incorporate these seeds into dishes which may otherwise result in bad breath (e.g. dishes with onions or garlic in them).
