A few of the reasons that people are afflicted with diseases are because of an abundance of toxins within the body, acidic conditions of the body, and a lack of vital nutrients. Knowing this, an important thing to do is to detoxify the body and then fill it with foods that are whole and organic. This is just one of the reasons that a detox process is so important for anyone that is going through a number of ailments, like cancer.
The most important aspects of detox are clearing the colon, liver, and kidneys while ridding the body of parasites and candida. Knowing this, it should be done in the order of colon, candida, parasites, kidneys, and then liver.
Cleansing the Colon
This organ is the host of billions of bacteria called microflora that account for about 70% of the dry weight of the body’s solid waste. Aside from making feces, these beneficial bacteria live in the digestive tract and within the colon to aid the body in successful absorption of nutrients, balancing the body’s pH, regulating hunger, and fighting off bacteria that can be potentially harmful. These are some of the reasons that it is so important to have a colon that is functioning properly.
How to Know if You Need a Colon Cleanse
To know if you are in need of detoxification of the colon you may be experiencing the following:
- Aching body
- A foul body odor from especially smelly flatulence
- Feelings of depression
- Sleeping trouble
- Difficulty concentrating
- Sexual dysfunction
- Weight problems
- Frequent sickness
- Bowel movements that are inconsistent in frequency and are either like paste or totally liquid.
Cleaning the Colon
The solution consists of two actions. The colon needs to be cleansed via detoxification and then it should be taken care of with foods that are high in fiber as well as an overall healthier lifestyle.
1. Using Water
To cleanse the colon, the best action to be taken is to drink plenty of water. It is vital to consume 10 to 12 glasses of water each day. This type of water consumption will allow the body to use the liquid as a lubricant that is required in the process of flushing out malicious toxins and other waste from the body in the natural manner that it is intended. Also, drinking this amount of water will help to kick start the body’s natural peristaltic action—this is what aids the food that has been consumed to move on through the digestive system. Along with water, fresh fruit and vegetable juices can help the body to stay hydrated.
2. Activated Charcoal
You may know that charcoal blocks are used in water filtration systems, so activated charcoal does essentially the same thing to the body. The charcoal draws in and then traps chemicals, toxins, food additives, and gases as well as some drug residues.
3. Foods Rich in Fiber
Consuming foods that are full of fiber will aid in cleansing the colon of toxins. Fiber is what helps keep stools produced by the body soft as well as help in the overall process of a bowel movement, which includes encouraging the body to make and expel waste. At the same time, these foods rich in fiber will help to get the intestines in optimal working shape.
Great foods that are high in fiber include: prunes, raspberries, avocados, broccoli, whole-wheat bread, and cabbage.
Candida is a type of fungus or yeast that lives inside of everyone within the mouth and intestinal tract. In a perfect world, candida would coexist peacefully with the other bacteria that help with digestion as well as absorbing nutrients. The problem is when candida starts to grow out of control and dominates the beneficial bacteria.
Having too much candida in the system not only makes you feel awful, but it gets to the point where it will give off toxins that overwhelm the body’s natural system of detoxification, penetrating the wall of the intestines which causes a leaky gut that allows harmful toxins to flow freely to the bloodstream. If this happens, you will actually feel poisoned—fatigue, headaches, rashes, dingus, bloat, and brain fog. The overgrowth of candida may also bring about sugar cravings. This is because yeast feeds on sugar, so the overgrowth of yeast will leave your body to crave what it feeds on.
Getting Rid of Candida Permanently
It is very difficult to get rid of candida, as over time it has grown resistant to antibiotics. Getting rid of overgrowth requires commitment to your own health. The 3-part process includes starving it, killing it, and suffocating it. Then, you will need to reintroduce good bacteria into the gut. It is possible that this cleanse will need to be completed more than once in order to totally get rid of the candida overgrowth—you should plan on a solid 2 months.
1. Starving Candida
Starving candida includes eliminating the foods that it feeds on like dairy, gluten, soy, refined white sugar, corn, and grains. Your plan should be to consume organic eggs as well as animal proteins with vegetables and good fats. Changing the diet alone will not kill the overgrowth, you will need to implement an herbal protocol as well. That being said:
- Animal proteins should be high quality and free of hormones and antibiotics. This includes beef, bison, lamb, cage free chicken and turkey, wild, cold water fish, and properly prepared legumes.
- Consume lots of leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables. Stick with those that are fresh and organic, consume them lightly cooked, steamed, sauteed, or raw.
- Use only good fats when cooking. This includes coconut oil, olive oil, and ghee. You should aim to avoid vegetable oils.
- 6 to 8 glasses of filtered water should be consumed daily. This helps to flush out the toxins.
- Drink 2 to 3 cups of Pau d’arco herbal tea each day, as well as bone broth. The tea helps to kill the yeast and the bone broth helps to heal the gut.
- Consume 1 to 3 tablespoons of coconut each day. It will kill the yeast and boost the metabolism, working double duty.
- Consume 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a little water if needed. This helps with detoxification and digestion. Other vinegars should be avoided as they contain the sugars that candida feeds on.
Yeast in any form like kombucha and in condiments, avoid mushrooms, grains and gluten, peanuts, cheese and dairy, preservatives, alcohol, regular meat and eggs, too much coffee, and sweet fruits and fruit juices.
2. Killing Candida
In addition to changing your diet, you will need to consume some herbs that will kill the excess candida. This can be done in conjunction with the diet. When choosing a supplement to take, it should be made up of a combination of or all of: pau d’arco, caprylic acid, berberine, grapefruit seed extract, biotin, zinc, and olive leaf extract. Candida can quickly build up a resistance to herbs, so you will need to rotate what you are consuming. The rotation should be done if you have unsuccessfully tried to kill the candida in the past. The herbs should be taken 3 times per day for 6 weeks or more. In addition to this, a digestive enzyme will aid in breaking down the food and extra toxins when the candida has died off.
NOTE: some people will feel worse before they feel better when trying this. Flu-like symptoms are possible and this is a sign of the yeast dying. It is possible that it will overwhelm the body and liver. If this happens, cut the supplement intake in half or totally stop them and then ease back in. The reaction is called a herxheimer reaction. Alternatively, activated charcoal and diatomaceous earth can aid in getting rid of toxins from the body.
3. Suffocating Candida
Once the candida has been killed, the gut needs to be filled with good bacteria and should starve any of the remaining overgrowth of yeast. To do this, use a quality probiotic for 1 to 2 months. It is preferable to use one with Saccharomyces boulardii in the ingredients. This can also be used when actively killing the overgrowth, but use it in place of the herbs. It is important to keep to your diet of no sugar, gluten, processed foods, or alcohol during this phase but you can reintroduce mushrooms, chocolate, vinegar, and a small bit of fruit.
A parasite infection can be marked by abdominal pain, loss of appetite, fatigue, coughing, and diarrhea. This can lead to some serious problems like malnutrition, bowel obstruction, and even loss of blood through the intestines—and these things can lead to larger problems like anemia or iron deficiency.
Colon detox is the place to start when working on a parasite cleanse, as the buildup of plaque in the colon is responsible for feeding the parasites. Cloves, wormwood, and black walnut can be used when looking for home remedies. Cloves kill the eggs and adult parasites, and black walnut and wormwood kill them in general.
The kidneys are responsible for filtering out toxins and other waste from the bloodstream. Keeping the kidneys healthy is vital for whole body health, and this can be done through consuming purified drinking water, having a balanced diet, and regular detoxification. Without this, toxins build up and adversely affect the functions of the kidneys as well as the liver. When the kidneys and liver are not working at their optimal level, the whole body will suffer.
You may need a kidney cleanse if you have: anemia, rashes, leg pain, a bad taste in your mouth, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, swollen feet or ankles, and drastic changes in urine. Below are a few kidney-cleansing remedies.
When you wake up in the morning, have some fresh squeezed lemon in a glass of water. This will help with digestion as well as detoxification. For a quick cleanse, add the juice of 4 or 5 lemons into a quart of cold water and consume. Alternatively, use the juice of one half of a lemon in 8 ounces of hot water each day. Consuming lemon water in the morning helps the body to get in motion for a day full of successful digestion. This also helps to replace any unhealthy beverages that you may be craving, as it is just a little better than just plain water and can be consumed either cold or hot.
Cranberries are notorious for helping fight urinary tract infections and can help with cleaning the kidneys of large amounts of calcium oxalate—the main contributor to kidney stones. Buy cranberry juice that is certified organic and does not have added preservatives, sugars, or artificial flavors. Cranberries will help to also decrease the chance of bacteria adhering to the urethra and bladder.
This works as a diuretic and increases the production of urine doing double work to clean the kidneys and liver. Drinking 2 cups of dandelion tea 2 times a day for a few weeks will cleanse the kidneys. This is what you need to do to make the tea:
- Boil 2 tsp. of (dried) dandelion root in a cup of water. Boil this for 5 minutes.
- Turn the heat off, cover, and allow to steep for a good 10 minutes.
- Strain this mixture into your cup, and then add honey to your desired flavor. Enjoy.
The liver is one of the main ways that the body works to rid itself of toxins. It works hard to detox the blood, produce bile, break down hormones, store vitamins, and more. When this important organ is not functioning at its best the body cannot digest food properly.
A “dirty” liver is marked by gas, heartburn, poor appetite, and constipation.
Cleaning the Liver
This needs 2 full days of commitment. You will also need:
- 1/2 cup cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil
- The juice of 1 large grapefruit
- 4 tablespoons Epsom salt
- 3 cups fresh apple or grapefruit juice
- Chamomile supplements (optional)
- 2 large jars (these are optional)
- 3 lemons (these are optional as well—you can add for taste)
Make sure that you are not allergic to Epsom salt. To do this, hold ¼ teaspoon Epsom salt in your mouth for about 1 minute and swallow. If there is no reaction within 30 seconds you should be fine. Before starting the cleanse, stop taking any other herbs, vitamins, or medicines.
To the do the actual cleanse, follow the procedure in the blog post: Eliminating Gallstones Naturally (Liver Cleanse)
Perhaps the most important item needed to clean out the lymphatic system is cardiovascular exercise: walking and other activities help to pump toxins out of the lymphatic system. Deep breathing exercises and dry brushing of the skin are also helpful methods in stimulating the lymphatic system and encouraging a natural detox.
Signs of a clogged lymphatic system include: arthritis, headaches, skin issues, chronic fatigue, unexplained injuries, sinus infections, excess weight or cellulite, and digestive disorders.
The skin needs a detox just as much as, if not more than, our other organs as it is the first line of defense against a whole host of pollutants and toxins. Exercise is also important for a skin detox, because sweating helps to flush out all of the bad stuff that’s lingering in the skin. Also, try to switch to all-natural and/or organic toiletries and cosmetics to keep your skin as clean and clear as possible.
If you think your body and your immune system needs an additional boost, you can try a detox to eliminate heavy metals from your body. Activated charcoal and zeolite clay are natural chelators, which bind to heavy metals in the body and remove them. Adding garlic, onions, cabbage, and brussels sprouts to your diet can also help remove heavy metals. Parasites may also be adding undue stress to your body, but incorporating wormwood, black walnut hull, cloves, cinnamon, garlic, and/or psyllium husks can help to remove parasites from the body.
For your body to feel and work its best, and your immune system to perform its best, it is important to not solely rely on detoxes and to eat a healthy diet all the time. As mentioned in the diet above, this mainly consists of removing artificial ingredients and processed foods from your diet and opting for natural, fresh options. Outside of detoxing, also be sure to include a wide variety of organic fruits and vegetables in your diet and get regular exercise.
