Foods that Shed Waistline Flabs

Have you been trying to do crunches and cardio to get rid that donut ring of flesh surrounding your waist? The answer to getting rid of this flab lies in what you’re eating, or rather what you’re not eating, as opposed to the right exercise.

Foods that Shed Waistline Flabs

Below you will find some of the best foods for fighting fat storage and excess weight around the waistline.

1. Hemp Seeds

Just 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds supply the body with 10 grams of protein and a good serving of Omega-3 fatty acids. Hemp seeds also contain 9 amino acids which can help fight heart disease, according to a study found in the journal Nutrition & Metabolism.

2. Chia Seeds

A good source of iron, healthy fats, and fiber, Chia seeds will help your body feel full and satisfied without making you pay for it in calories. Chia seeds are also known as a hydrophilic food, which means that they absorb water once digested, inflating to about 12 times their original size. This will leave you feeling full and satisfied.

3. Quinoa

This little grain has been rising in popularity for its high protein content and versatility that makes it act like a grain (i.e. making it easy to incorporate into dishes). Just one cup of quinoa provides you with 8 grams of protein and about almost 3 grams of soluble fiber. According to a study done by the American Society for Nutritional Sciences, quinoa can also help lower blood sugar levels and increase/prolong your feeling of fullness.

4. Chickpeas

Chickpeas are low on the glycemic index, which makes them a good choice especially for someone trying to lose weight. Being low on the glycemic index means they are slow to digest, keeping hunger and cravings away.

5. Lentils

These legumes pack a powerful nutritional punch: in just one cup of lentils, you receive 18 grams of protein, 16 grams of fiber, and 24 grams of complex carbs. Lentils are also rich in magnesium, iron, and folate, minerals that many adults do not get enough of. The high protein and fiber contents will leave you feeling full and reduce cravings.

6. Brown Rice

Brown rice is probably one of the simplest, easiest, and cheapest foods that will help you lose that extra weight around your midsection. Brown rice helps to reduce insulin levels and provides you with 5 grams of protein and 3.5 grams of fiber per cooked cup.

7. Pumpkin Seeds

Another great snack when fighting the flab, a cup of pumpkin seeds gives you 12 grams of protein which will leave you feeling full and content.

8. Kale

This leafy green vegetable will help you feel full with its protein, fiber, and variety of vitamins and minerals.

9. Almonds

Almonds make for a great snack when trying to lose weight because they are filling, so you don’t need to eat many, and provide your body with a wide range of benefits, including protein, vitamin E, and omega-3s.

The real key to losing weight, especially right around the midsection, is a healthy diet. You don’t need to cut down to 800 calories per day or spend three hours at the gym every night to see a difference. Simply substitute some of these healthy additions into your diet and you will quickly notice the protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals in these foods making a positive impact on your weight and your body overall.
