Sweating is the natural mechanism of the human body to controls its temperature. Sweating helps to maintain normal body temperature by removing unnecessary toxins from the system. Nevertheless, some people perspire more than others. Perspiring more than normal is known as excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis.
This condition impacts different body parts, including scalp, forehead, neck, palms, underarms, and feet, and could result in uncomfortable feelings for sufferers, such as odor or stickiness. The causes of excessive sweating can be due to a nutritional deficiency, hormone problems, fever, stress, infections, and more.
Natural Treatments for Excessive Sweating
Though hyperhidrosis is not dangerous, it can be very uncomfortable and embarrassing. To relieve the symptoms naturally, there are some natural home remedies for excessive sweating, that can help the body return to its normal state.
Apple Cider Vinegar
One of the most effective home remedies for almost every health condition is apple cider vinegar. This ingredient has astringent properties and could be used externally to reduce sweating. Taking ACV internally will help balance the pH level of the body. To make use of apple cider vinegar for controlling excessive sweating, wash the affected area and apply a small amount of ACV to the area (example, underarm, under breasts, or around genital areas) using a cotton ball. Wait for a few hours and wash it off with warm water.
Alternatively, mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with the same amount of organic honey. After that, put the mixture in a glass of water and as a daily remedy. Drink before having a breakfast in the morning.
Apart from baking soda being an effective remedy for heartburn, teeth whitening agent, skin irritation relief remedy, it can also be used to control excessive sweating. In essence, baking soda is alkaline; therefore, it helps lower the pH level of the sweating body parts naturally. Besides, being a natural antiperspirant, baking soda also absorbs moisture and neutralizes body odor quickly.
To eliminate excessive sweat, mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with a small amount of water to create a good paste. Next, add about 3 drops of your favorite essential oil and apply the mixture to the affected body parts. After 15 minutes, wash it off with lukewarm water.
Another way to use baking soda as an excessive sweating home remedy is to mix it with organic cornstarch, then dust some of this solution on the sweating body parts. It is recommended applying either of these methods for a few days to get good results and to see which technique works best.
One of the simplest home remedies for excessive sweating is black tea. Due to the astringent and anti-perspirant properties of the tannic acid available, black tea helps constrict the sweat glands. In addition, with antiperspirant properties, it is also useful in reducing perspiration.
Use black tea to stop sweaty feet or hands by putting 2 tea bags in a basin of hot water and soak the feet or hands in the solution for 20 minutes. Apply this method once per day for several weeks until the results are noticeable.
Similar to black tea, witch hazel has astringent as well as antiperspirant properties, so it is effective in shrinking the skin’s pores and preventing excessive sweating. Furthermore, its pleasant aroma will assist in masking body odor.
Simply dab witch hazel liquid on the body parts that sweat the most by using a clean cotton ball. Repeat the treatment every day for fast results. As an alternative remedy, mix a small amount of water with 1 tablespoon of witch hazel bark powder in order to create a good paste. Apply the paste over sweaty areas and wait for one hour or so before rinsing it off with cold water. Use this treatment daily for a couple of weeks.
Lemon is a very common ingredient in our home kitchen. Apart from its versatile use in cooking, beauty and its plethora of health benefits, lemon is also utilized as one of the cheapest home remedies for excessive sweating. Its citric acid is effective in eradicating bacteria whereas its relaxing fragrance works well as a natural deodorant.
Nonetheless, avoid using lemon if you have to step out in sun as it may cause dark underarms. The best time to apply this solution is at bedtime. Just cut a fresh lemon into halves and rub one half under the armpits. After 15 minutes, wash it off with cool water.
Sage tea is famous for its ability of tackling excessive sweating naturally. Take a handful of sage leaves (either in fresh or dried form) and add them in boiling water to make a tea. Let it steep for 10 minutes then add a little bit honey or lemon to add flavor. After the tea cools, apply it on sweating areas of the body using a cotton ball. This will reduce sweating by 50% or so.
Generally, to treat your excessive sweating effectively, other than the 6 home remedies mentioned above, one should also avoid anything that triggers anxiety and stress, reduce caffeine intake, quit using harsh soaps or deodorants, cut down the intake of spicy, sugary, and chemically processed foods as these are triggers of hyperhidrosis.
Additionally, wear clothes that are made from natural fabrics like cotton, and avoid those synthetic textiles like polyesters and nylon.
