7 All-Natural Remedies for Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

If you’ve ever had a urinary tract infection, you know how uncomfortable and painful they can be. And when you have a UTI, you don’t exactly want to wait for hours at the clinic or days to see your doctor before you can get relief.

2. Celery Seeds

Celery seeds act as a potent diuretic. You can easily chew a handful of celery seeds to help flush your urinary tract. You may reap the most benefits by snacking on some celery seeds right after a meal.

3. Cucumber

Because cucumber has such a high water content, it is another excellent natural remedy to be included in the treatment of your UTI. Especially if you have a hard time making yourself drink enough water, cucumber is especially necessary for you to incorporate into your day.

6. Horseradish

A compound found in horseradish (AITC) has a strong antimicrobial effect. This component literally kills bacteria by attacking the cellular membrane. The simplest recipe is this: grate fresh horseradish until you have about ½ teaspoon, and combine this with a full glass of water or milk. Try drinking this twice a day when suffering from a urinary tract infection.

7. Blueberries

Blueberries are related to cranberries and are beneficial for much the same reason. Blueberries can help prevent bacteria from attaching itself to the walls of the urinary tract, thus preventing UTI’s and helping to treat infections already occurring. All you need is 1-2 cups of fresh, washed blueberries every day.

To prevent UTIs in the first place, it is important to pee often and make sure your underthings are clean and dry (so no sitting in a wet bathing suit for hours).  If you do contract a urinary tract infection, it is crucial to treat it right away.

These natural remedies are safe and effective in treating and preventing UTIs and may keep you from having to go to the doctor’s office altogether.
